23. Bur Oak Tree

This mature Bur Oak tree is a direct decedent of the original Council Oak under which US government officials counciled in the 1800s with American Indian tribes. Grown from an acorn harvested from the Council Oak and planted by the Council Oak Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in 1931, this tree gives visitors to Council Grove today the opportunity to imagine what the Council Oak might have looked like when during Santa Fe Trail days. The tree is located one block north of the Terwillinger House at the corner of Adams and Columbia streets.
